Chainsaw Training Equips Volunteers for Safer, Smarter Disaster Response
Love Acadiana hosted a Level 1 Chainsaw Training on July 19 to strengthen the skills and safety awareness of our disaster response team. Led by certified arborist and seasoned “red cutter” Matthew Topper of Stormwise, the training combined classroom instruction with hands-on practice. Volunteers applied what they learned by removing limbs from a storm-fallen tree for a neighbor near OSC-Midtown, where the training was held.
While most participants came with chainsaw experience, the course focused on refining safe techniques and improving worksite workflow—especially important when coordinating large volunteer teams. The day offered valuable insight and practical tools to help our crews serve more effectively in future disasters.
