In August 2021, Hurricane Ida greatly impacted our state – but so did our response, thanks to volunteers and supporters alike. Within days of landfall, we were blessed and challenged with a novel assignment: sharing thousands of gallons of fuel and loaning hundreds of generators to survivors in areas where the infrastructure was as devastated as the homes.
Collaborating with church leaders in impacted regions, eager volunteers, and Acadiana Responds coalition leaders, we:
set up five generator distribution hubs across the state
distributed thousands of gallons of fuel
mobilized 250+ volunteers
mucked out and/or tarped 40+ homes
served 150 families
shared the love of Jesus with countless people in communities all over Southeast Louisiana.
While this disaster (like all of them) brought with it new challenges, the Lord also made sure we had new opportunities to grow, new ways to serve, found new depths of compassion, built new cherished relationships, and gained new confidence in Him and in our experience.
Since then, we’ve responded to everything from freezes with broken pipes to power outages during heat waves, and continue to grow in our capabilities and equipping, all the while remembering that growth rarely happens in comfort.
