After June flooding swept through Avoyelles Parish, we established a command post and began assisting homeowners with dehumidifiers and fans to help dry out their homes, and organized serve days to muck out and remove debris from them.
In September, our team was back in Avoyelles Parish for another serve day, this time working alongside the Avoyelles Early Recovery Team, with training from Stormwise Foundation, to assess homes still needing help. Volunteer assessors met with homeowners and documented remaining needs so local leaders can determine the best next steps for their community.
Unfortunately, recovery doesn’t end when the water goes down or the headlines move on. For many families, the road home takes months – or longer. The data we collect is also used attract groups in our national network of Christian organizations who may consider coming to Louisiana to help these families rebuild. We’re glad to continue working alongside local leaders and partners who are committed to helping this community recover.
