Home at Last

On Saturday, August 22, Love Acadiana helped a storm survivor in St. Martin Parish move back into her home, two years after it was damaged by a tornado. Nearly 20 volunteers arrived bright and early to move and unpack boxes, and clean and organize belongings. They also hung blinds, painted her porch and removed a rotting wheelchair ramp. The homeowner was having A/C problems and as God would have it, there happened to be an HVAC repair team among the volunteers, so she also ended up with a cool house!

We were especially excited to welcome several newcomers who worked hard alongside our veteran volunteers. Saturday’s crew represented multiple OSC campuses as well as The Bayou Church. There was lots of laughter, meaningful conversation, some reminiscing and some new friendships formed. We’re always thrilled to see the great things that happen when believers put their faith into action. The serve day ended with the group presenting the homeowner with a gift basket, a Bible signed by everyone on site, and prayer over her home.

To this month’s amazing Saturday Serve team, thanks for donating your time to such a worthy cause. Days like this are only possible because of people like you.

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. –Galatians 6:2
