After the May 13 tornado in St. Martin Parish, we set up a command post in Henderson City Hall to reach as many members of the community as possible with disaster relief. Our selfless volunteers spent hours and days in the area assessing homes, chainsawing trees and limbs, tarping roofs, cleaning debris in yards, feeding families and taking a moment to give hope through prayer. Our immediate response efforts continued into June with volunteers braving the heat, right up through the serve blitz June 21-22.
Two widowed neighbors whose yards we cleared teared up as they explained how our volunteers were literally an answer to prayer. With their husbands gone, tasks that were once simple to have done – like debris cleanup with heavy equipment – had become insurmountable. Because you showed up, they can finally use their driveways again, and they know they’re not alone.
Thank you to all the volunteers who were the hands and feet of Jesus to this community. All in all, we touched 97 homes! That’s 97 families who felt seen and loved by God through your efforts.
