What do you say to someone who has just lost everything? After serving countless precious people in those circumstances, we asked ourselves that question often. With the recent CISM+ (Critical Incident Stress Management Plus) training we hosted, 39 volunteers and staff are now better equipped to respond to someone who has experienced trauma or loss. In the 14 hour-course held May 20-21, we learned to deal with the mental, emotional and spiritual issues people face in times of disaster. All participants received a certification in Disaster Psychological First Aid and CISM/CISD (Critical Incident Stress Management/Critical Incident Stress Debriefing).
We are so grateful for United Disaster Relief Network (UDRN), a Christian non-profit based in Austin, for bringing their first off-site training to us. Our community will be better off for it!
